If they want to improve the business of their own craft in today’s society of accelerated changes in the labor market and the development of technology, modern craftsmen and entrepreneurs must acquire new knowledge every day. Lifelong learning enables us to keep pace with technological development and the development of competitiveness.
By taking the master’s exam, a craftsman or entrepreneur enters the community of motivated people who want to acquire the most prestigious profession in their profession, thus proving professional competencies and competence for lifelong learning. By taking the master’s exam, one also acquires the title of “master – professional teacher” who has the right to teach scientists.
Master exams are state-recognized exams, regulated by the Crafts Act and the Ordinance on the Procedure and Manner of Taking the Master Exam, and the Professional Qualification Exam (OG 88/02), and can be taken for titles from the list of related trades, whose programs were adopted by the Minister in charge of the economy.
The master’s exam is open to:
persons who, after passing the scientific examination, have at least two years of work experience in the profession for which they wish to take the master’s examination.
persons who, after completing secondary vocational education for acquiring a non-qualification acquired by vocational education for related trades, grammar school programs and secondary art education, if on the day of taking the exam they have at least four years of work experience in the profession for which they want to take the master’s exam.
persons who have passed the scientific exam in the appropriate occupation and completed education in a master’s school for a period of one year.
persons who have acquired the appropriate secondary education by the school year 1999/2000, if on the day of taking the exam they have at least two years of work experience in the profession for which they want to take the master’s exam.
persons who, after completing secondary vocational education for acquiring a non-qualification acquired by vocational education for related trades, grammar school programs and secondary art education, if on the day of taking the exam they have at least two years of work experience in the profession for which they want to take a master’s exam. master school for a period of one year.
Work experience in a certain occupation is experience that a person acquires within employment, during professional training for work without employment, work as a volunteer or other form of work in accordance with the law, and is proven by public documents and employment contract, appropriate certificates, recommendations and statements of witnesses on work on certain jobs.
The master’s exam is taken according to the program of taking the master’s exam issued by the minister responsible for crafts, and consists of:
part: Making a practical assignment and / or rehearsal
part: Tests of theoretical knowledge necessary for skillful performance of jobs appropriate to the trade
part: Checks of knowledge in the field of economy, knowledge of regulations on keeping business books and regulations on performing trades
part: Tests of basic knowledge necessary for teaching scientists
The examinee who has passed the master’s exam is issued a diploma of master’s degree (master’s degree). A master’s degree allows you to open and run a business on your own or run a business for another craftsman, as well as easier employment.
The Croatian Chamber of Trades and Crafts has been conducting master’s exams since 1996. By 2019, 20,302 people had acquired the title of “master”. The largest number of master exams was passed for the profession of hairdresser (5,317), followed by chefs (1,712), car mechanics (1,558), electricians (982), carpenters (807), masons (783), plumbers, heating and air conditioning installers (632), ophthalmologists (526), gas installers (557), beauticians (476), waiters (435).
